At CS Glaziers, we proudly lead the way in glass recycling as part of Saint Gobain’s Glass Forever scheme. Our commitment to sustainable practices drives us to recycle post-consumer glass that typically ends up in landfills. By utilizing our advanced cullet crushing machine at our Head Office in Llay, we are making significant strides in waste reduction and resource conservation.
Glass recycling is crucial for environmental health. When we crush post-consumer glass, known as cullet, we return it to manufacturers for use in producing new float glass. This innovative process not only minimizes our carbon footprint but also enhances energy efficiency. In fact, using cullet can reduce CO2 emissions and save energy—requiring 30% less energy than processing primary raw materials. Remarkably, just one tonne of cullet can save enough energy to power the average home for six months while preventing around 300 kg of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
So far, we have successfully recycled enough glass to save an impressive 107 tonnes of CO2. This milestone underscores the impact of our glass recycling initiatives. Additionally, each recycled tonne of glass conserves raw materials and reduces the need for new glass production, further contributing to a circular economy.
